Huawei’s P20 Pro takes even better night pictures than the Pixel 2 XL

Image
Roughly half of Huawei’s P20 Pro launch event this week was dedicated to the new device’s camera capabilities, reflecting the great deal of time and attention the company has dedicated to mobile photography. And the results, now that I’ve had a few days to try out the P20 Pro, aren’t far off from the lofty hype. Huawei has crafted a formidable contender for the crown of best smartphone camera. I’m not yet convinced that it deserves that accolade, but I can say with certainty that the P20 Pro’s night mode is a groundbreaking innovation that produces some of the best night shots ever taken with a phone. Even the lauded Google Pixel 2 XL struggles to keep up with the P20 Pro. Touring around the city of Paris, the venue of Huawei’s P20 announcement, I shot a bunch of casual photos with the Pixel 2 XL and the P20 Pro. Below you’ll find a selection of the most notable ones, starting off with the most challenging situation: nighttime photography. Huawei P20 Pro on

These Volkswagen Beetle Photos Were Shot on a Table

Image
Photographer Felix Hernandez has wowed the world for years with his large-scale photos created using small-scale models. Volkswagen recently turned to Hernandez’s talents for a series of photos showing a classic Beetle on a desert road. Everything was shot on a tabletop. Hernandez carefully painted and prepared the models and tiny set leading up to the shoot. Here are some behind-the-scenes views: Finally, here’s a 3.5-minute behind-the-scenes video with a much more in-depth look at how this “Love Beetle” project was done: Via https://petapixel.com/2018/03/27/these-volkswagen-beetle-photos-were-shot-on-a-table/

Canon Full Frame Mirrorless, 5DS/R Mark II, 90D, Compact Cameras Got Registered

Image
Japanese website NokishitaCamera currently has spotted a list of new Canon camera codes being testing. These camera codes include upcoming Canon full frame mirrorless cameras, Canon EOS 5DS/R Mark II, Canon EOS 90D and Canon compact cameras. K424 Interchangeable lens camera Full size Wi-Fi · Bluetooth installed It is described as mirrorless image size (6720 × 4480) in the test data (since the detail column is filled with almost the same data as 5D Mark IV [K349], the image size may be a dummy possibility) K433 Interchangeable lens camera Wi-Fi · Bluetooth installed It is written as mirrorless full size in the test data (it is the same as the data of K424, so it is possible that the initial data was diverted for testing) K436 Lens interchangeable camera (probably single lens reflex) Wi-Fi · Bluetooth installed K437 Lens interchangeable camera (probably single lens reflex) Wi-Fi · Bluetooth installed EC801 Compact digital camera Wi-Fi · Bluetooth installed EC804 Compact digital camera Wi

Canon shows off the 120MP APS-H sensor

Image
Remember that 120MP demo camera? Apparently it’s still around.  Here’s a camera with that sensor module (APS-H 120MP) shooting at 9.4fps video for advanced imagery and manufacturing applications. Apparently 4k is over, bring on 13.2K ;) Keep in mind that Canon’s been promising an actual camera with this for some time , however the news gets more interesting with this video.  Going by normal development timelines, this camera should be ready to production if Canon decides to release it sometime later this year or next year.  Outside of the Canon development announcement, no other information or leaks on release have surfaced. The thought of having a 120MP camera shooting 9fps leaves me a bit giddy.  It’ll be interesting to see what further develops from this. While obviously this won’t interest the average consumer, the industrial possibilities are quite interesting. The ability to zoom into detail such as what we can’t do right now can lead to some interesting usages.

Nikon Fullframe Mirrorless Coming in Sept 2018

Image
Thom Hogan is a veteran photograph and also and Nikon professional for a long time. This is not the first time Thom Hogan always publish post in the beginning of the year that contains a lot of predictions related to Nikon itself. And many time the prediction is straight forward right. This year Thom Hogan predicted that Nikon will going to announce full frame mirrorless system camera in the CP Plus event in the month of Sept 2018 Take a look what thom hogen said Still, we’re close. At least at the camera level. I expect Nikon to announce their new mirrorless system at CP+, which for 2018 begins with the month of Sept. I expect Nikon to have both DX and FX mirrorless options by the time Photokina rolls around next fall. Thom says he expect that Nikon both FX and DX camera will become available by September of this year (during Photokina 2018 event). So, we may see either a development announcement or may be a DX sensor based Mirrorless camera this August as Thom said. Even we are waiti

Canon Full Frame Mirror less is Definitely Coming

Image
We have now confirmed from a couple of good sources that a full frame mirrorless camera is well into its development cycle, as the camera is being used by select Canon pro photographers. We reported back in January that a survey went out to some Explorers of Light about what they wanted to see in a “professional” mirrorless camera, and that dialogue has apparently continued. While an announcement date is not yet set for the camera, and little is known about it specifications wise, I’m very confident we’re going to see something announced before the end of Q1 in 2019. One source said that Canon has been quite open about the product development with professionals because they want to be sure to “get it right”, and they don’t want to fall into the trap of a first generation product not being great. The biggest question I want answered is what will the native lens mount be? No one has provided any reliable information on that or any other specifications. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a
